- Southeast Asian language instructors teaching at established programs.
- Limited to 30 participants—applications carefully evaluated based on submitted material.
Workshop Format:
Online, hybrid: asynchronous modules + two live online discussion sessions via Zoom
Tentative Workshop Schedule:
- January 19, 2026: Access to workshop modules (complete before live sessions)
- Saturday, February 7, 2026, 7:00-8:30pm CT: Discussion Session 1 (online)
- Saturday, February 21, 2026, 7:00-8:30pm CT: Discussion Session 2 (online)
Workshop Highlights
Working throughout the online modules, participants will:
– Explore the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Guidelines
– Review examples of ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) conducted by certified testers
– Participate in guided practice applying speaking assessment criteria to language samples
– Engage in activities to strengthen understanding of the major proficiency levels
– Discuss the applications and implications of the OPI in classroom instruction
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
– Define concept of proficiency
– Differentiate major proficiency levels and sublevels
– Describe features of each major ACTFL speaking level
– Identify effective techniques for eliciting language samples
– Describe the structure and instructional use of the OPI
Certificate:
Participants who complete all components receive an ACTFL Certificate of Completion (Please note, completion of this workshop does not qualify participants for ACTFL OPI Tester Certification. Those interested in tester certification must directly enroll in the OPI Assessment Workshop or Modified OPI Assessment Workshop through ACTFL.)
