“Strengthening the Field of Southeast Asian Language Instruction
through Collaboration”

In this roundtable session, the Council of Teachers of Southeast Asian Languages (COTSEAL) in collaboration with the Southeast Asian Language Council (SEALC) showcased the results of SEALC’s initial projects funded by the Henry Luce Foundation’s Initiative on Southeast Asia. These included the Oral Proficiency Guidelines project, 2) the Heritage Language and Project-Based Language Learning initiative, and 3) the Publication workshop. The panel was organized by Dr. Abigail Cohn (Cornell U) and Dr. Juliana Wijaya (UCLA), and chaired by Cohn. Discussants included Wijaya, Pittaya Paladroi-Shane (Ohio U), Imelda Gasmen (U Hawai’i – Manoa), and Chung Nguyen (Columbia U). Dr. Erlin Barnard (UW-Madison) was scheduled as a discussant but was unable to participate due to unforeseen circumstances. Congratulations to all participants!
